| English Pronunciation Tips | Pronunciation can have an effect on your communication. A lot of people, who have had a go at learning a foreign language, have experienced that dropping feeling when they try a well-constructed sentence in another language simply to be met with a blank face. This is because languages are built on sounds. If you speak your native language and live in your native country you are expected to say sounds in a particular way. In other countries you will hear dissimilar sounds. When we cannot recognize the sound we try and regulate how we are listening but if we cannot guess the sound, the chances are we will not understand what is being said.
The Blocks of Pronunciation Pronunciation has two major aspects to it, actually producing it and the sound that is produced from it, the hearing of the sound. As we get older the capability of doing both of these, and other features physically work out how to make the sound and recognize it, can weaken. This does not mean that you cannot go on learning new languages but you will definitely need some additional tricks to help you.
Say it Try saying the letters. Notice how your mouth is working. If you do not know how a sound is actually made you may find it harder to say it.
The Same Sounds English has many more sounds than other languages but it also has numerous sounds in common with other languages. Good dictionaries in a new language will typically propose an English sound or word to contrast with. You may use it to check what sounds are alike.
Hard to Say Sounds Look through the new language alphabet and define the ones that are hard to say for you. Pay more attention to them. Try and physically make the sound and see how your mouth works. This will help you memories the letters and sounds.
Read out Loud Find some reading form your course book or any other book. There are two benefits here. One you get to say the letters and words. Secondly you get to practice sounds that you expect to hear and you become familiar to the sounds of the language.
For many people the ability to get by in other languages is good enough. If you can say what you want, simply, slowly and the person you are speaking to, can understand you, then your pronunciation is almost certainly good enough.
